Planning Officer- Bushfire Rebuild Support Service - Limited Tenure

Position overview

This is a full time, limited tenure (up to December 2022) position based in Bairnsdale. Flexible working arrangements will be considered.

The purpose of the role is to provide strategic planning and building advice as part of the Rebuild Support Service team to assist landowners through the rebuilding process following the 2019/20 Bushfires.

This role will work closely with, yet separate to, Council’s planning team to ensure efficiencies in the approvals process, as well as ensuring all referrals to key external agencies are managed in a timely manner.

Key to the role is the provision of the highest levels of customer service recognising the loss and impact experienced by landholders accessing the service.  

What you will need to succeed

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Relevant qualifications and experience as listed in Position Description.
  • Knowledge of current planning policies and legislation.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with staff, public, consultants and statutory authorities.
  • Good knowledge of and the ability to interpret, the various applicable Acts and Regulations relating to Council Planning matters.
  • Ability to investigate, prepare and complete reports on a wide range of planning matters, and make recommendations to management and Council.
  • Capacity to make independent and unassisted decisions.
  • Ability to produce work, which is timely, accurate and to a high professional standard.  Ability to work with and guide others in a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to adapt to and manage change.
